Continuous exploration is good for the soul

Continuous exploration is good for the soul. I’m in the middle of Nick’s Creative Visionary Program. We’re exploring my favorite part of painting: COLOR. I love the complexity of color: value, saturation, complements, temperature, harmony…bringing it all together with soul. I’m an intuitive painter, so even if I think I have a plan, I go with the flow. And after 20-30 minutes in the flow state, I move onto another piece. Keeping it fresh, full of energy and joy :-)

Limited beliefs paralyzed me for years. Unfortunately, I believed the old gallery business formula . First, create your style. Second, build a body of work. Third, submit it to a gallery. What if you don't know your style or it changes? How can you create a body of work then? The galleries tell you this because they want certainty. This is bizarre because art is full of uncertainty! In fact, artists need to continually explore, to create what's possible. That's what artists do, they create what didn't existed before.

After years of struggle, I am finally becoming comfortable with uncertainty and not focusing on my "style" or a "body of work". Instead, I'm showing up everyday, exploring what's possible and discovering myself. I'm thinking BIG! I create what brings me joy, intuitively. I let each stroke be a dialogue guided by grace.
